The Rookery is a new dungeon that's included in the Season 2 Mythic+ rotation for World of Warcraft: The War Within. The Rookery is a 3-boss dungeon located in the capital city of Dornogol. This complete guide covers important boss mechanics in the Rookery and dungeon achievements.

The Rookery is one of 8 dungeons part of the Season 2 Mythic+ rotation in The War Within:

  • Cinderbrew Meadery

  • Darkflame Cleft

  • The Rookery

  • Priory of the Sacred Flame

  • The MOTHERLODE!!!

  • Operation: Floodgate

  • Theater of Pain

  • Operation Mechagon: Workshop

The Rookery is a fairly straightforward dungeon with only 3 bosses. Players must fly to the Rookery and descend the tower's 5 floors, facing 3 bosses along the way: Kyrioss, Stormguard Gorren, and the Voidstone Monstrosity at the bottom.

Kyrioss is Stormguard Gorren's stormrook that's been corrupted by Xal'atath's dark magic. Kyrioss has 6 different abilities that players must be aware of in the small upper floor arena.

Kyrioss will cast both Stormheart and Chain Lightning. Stormheart causes Thunderbolts to occasionally spawn over a certain area. Thunderbolts will damage players within 6 yards of the impact, so range players should keep their distance, and melee DPS should save their movement cooldowns for this mechanic. Chain Lightning will cast on up to 3 players, inflicting over 2 million Nature Damage.

Kyrioss will also imbue players with Unstable Charge for 6 seconds. When the debuff falls off, the player will explode dealing damage to all players in line of sight. To minimize damage taken by Unstable Charge, party members should all be spread apart from each other and facing the hole in the middle of the room, so no other players are in their line of sight.

Periodically, Kyrioss will fly to the center of the room and cast Lightning Torrent, a massive AOE torrent of lightning. All party members should save defensive cooldowns for this cast.

Finally, Kyrioss will also do a Lightning Dash, leaping at a targeted location to knock back players and deal massive lightning damage.

Stormguard Gorren attacks party members with massive amounts of void energy. Gorren's main ability is Chaotic Corruption, a DoT that lasts for 5 seconds and then jumps to the nearest player. In Mythic+, this DoT will also cause Chaotic Vulnerability.

Chaotic Vulnerability increases the amount of damage players take by Chaotic Corruption by 100% for the next 30 seconds, meaning that players will be in trouble if Chaotic Corruption jumps back to them within 30 seconds. Parties will need to communicate on what order party members will take the debuff to avoid deaths during this boss fight.

With the Dark Gravity ability, Gorren will pull in players for AoE damage and a knockback if they don't get out in time. Players should save their movement cooldowns for this ability.

Stormguard Gorren will also charge his hammer with void energy to cast Crush Reality, dealing massive shadow damage to anyone in the impact. This ability also spawns the final two mechanics, Reality Tear and Lingering Void.

Reality Tears are fragments of the void that will fly from the impact point. Players need to dodge these to avoid taking damage. The point of impact for Crush Reality will also have a Lingering Void that will deal over 1.5 million damage every second.

The Voidstone Monstrosity is the final boss in the bottom of the Rookery and is the unfortunate result of all those void-corrupted stormriders. Stormrider Vokmar will join the party to help you defeat the monstrosity with various abilities. The Voidstone Monstrosity's main mechanic is called Null Upheaval.

When the Voidstone Monstrosity performs Null Upheaval, he will smash the platform, causing explosions for over 2.6 million damage. These explosions also release Seeping Fragments that will deal damage to any party member standing near or in it.

When Stormrider Vokmar uses Stormrider's Charge, party members will take 80% reduced damage from the Seeping Fragments and then throw his hammer into the ground to detonate all the shards.

Oblivion Wave is the tank buster, inflicting 3.9 million shadow damage to the player in its path. Tanks and Healers should save cooldowns for this periodic tank buster.

Also, if the tank leaves melee range at any time, the Voidstone Monstrosity will get Entropy, smashing the platform and wiping the party.

The Voidstone Monstrosity also periodically casts Unleash Corruption, the main AoE damage for the group. In Mythic+, this ability also shatters void chunks that players have to dodge.

The last two mechanics for this fight are Void Shell and Void Chunk. When the boss uses Void Shell, it will get a 20% shield. Party members should deplete as much of the shield as possible until Stormrider Vokmar uses Storm's Vengeance, a powerful smash that will deplete 20% of the boss's health.

Void Chunk will cause shattered void chunk pieces around the arena to become adds called Awakened Voidstones. These Awakened Voidstones will pulse AoE damage until they are cleaved down.

There are 4 achievements that players can get by completing The Rookery dungeon on various difficulties:

  • "The Rookery" - Complete the dungeon on any difficulty

  • "Heroic: The Rookery" - Complete the dungeon on Heroic difficulty

  • "Mythic: The Rookery" - Complete the dungeon on Mythic difficulty

  • "Keystone Hero: The Rookery" - Time the Rookery on a +10 mythic keystone or higher, also rewarding players with a Teleport to the Rookery
