The Finer Things: What to Do with Nerub-ar Finery in World of Warcraft: The War Within

Starting October 8th, players will be able to receive Nerub-ar Finery from the Nerub-ar Palace raid. Here's what the Nerub-ar Finery is actually for, and how to complete the quest "The Finer Things" in World of Warcraft: The War Within.

After opening the Great Vault on Tuesday, I immediately jumped into a LFR group for "The Queen's Fall" as a part of my weekly reset checklist. (If you don't do LFR for an extra chance at the Reins of the Ascendant Skyrazor, you should!)

After defeating The Silken Court, a new item dropped called Nerub-ar Finery. It turns out that obtaining Nerub-ar Finery starts a quest called The Finer Things. Here are the steps to completing The Finer Things:

  • Defeat raid bosses on any difficulty to earn Nerub-ar Finery (one per boss)

  • Upon obtaining 16 Nerub-ar Finery, players will receive Severed Strands, a 3% raid bonus to damage and healing

  • Players can repeat the quest, stacking a 3% buff every other week

  • At the end of the raid tier, players will have a maximum of 18% damage and healing bonus in Nerub-ar Palace.

Although players can start The Finer Things quest this week, you won't be able to start receiving a raid buff until next week on the 15th. Since the quest requires collecting 16 Nerub-ar Finery and only 8 drop per week, it will take two complete weeks to complete the quest.

The Nerub-ar Finery drops from raid bosses on any difficulty, meaning players can collect them on Mythic, Heroic, Normal, or LFR difficulty. Players can also mix raid difficulties to complete the quest. You can get 4 from Heroic raid and 4 from Normal raid, etc.

Thankfully, players won't have to worry about getting behind. Blizzard has confirmed that there will be a catch-up mechanic for the quest The Finer Things. The cap for Nerub-ar Finery will increase by 8 every week, meaning that players can potentially collect all 16 next week if they run the Nerub-ar Palace raid on multiple difficulties next week.

After collecting 16 Nerub-ar Finery, players can turn in the quest to the hologram Beetle General at the beginning of the raid in Nerub-ar Palace. Don't worry about picking the quest up again. The Finer Things can just be turned in repeatedly after collecting another 16 Nerub-ar Finery.

The Severed Strands buff is Warband bound. This means players only have to complete the quest on one character to unlock the buff for all toons.

Players can start stacking the 3% on the 15th, increasing it by 3% every other week. Since the maximum raid buff is 18%, players have predicted that the next raid tier will come out around March of 2025, making Nerub-ar Palace a 6-month raid tier. Players will have the full 18% buff by February, giving guilds a chance to get AOTC or Cutting Edge at the end of the expansion.

Historically, raid tiers have followed a 6-month schedule, although the time in between season can tend to drag on. Previous expansions like Warlords of Draenor and Shadowlands saw almost 300 days in between expansions.

Since Blizzard has a goal to release the Worldsoul Saga - 3 expansions in 3 years - players are unsure how many raids and Mythic+ season each expansion will have this time.

Here is a summary of the Severed Strands buff provided by Wowhead:

  • Severed Strands is an optional buff players can pick up to add a soft nerf to the Nerub-ar Palace raid

  • A month after Season 1 begins, players will be able to pick up the quest "The Finer Things"

  • This quest cannot yet be completed, but you can farm currency starting 10/8/2024

  • The quest will allow a new currency to be collected from raid bosses called Nerub-ar Finery

  • The raid buff starts 10/15/2024

  • Nerub-ar Finary is Warbound and can be turned in for Severed Strands

  • The maximum amount of Nerub-ar Finery that can be collected is 8 per week with a rising cap

  • There is a catch-up mechanic for players that start late

  • Severed Strands can stack up to 8 times for a maximum of an 18% bonus to damage and healing in raid
