2024 was a rather disappointing year in gaming with many major titles missing the mark or suffering from optimization issues. However, 2025 is shaping up to be a huge year in gaming with the arrival of highly anticipated RPGs like Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Civilization 7, and Fable.
While in 2024 it seemed like every other game releasing was another MMO with unoriginal ideas, developers seem to be returning to the classic RPG experience in 2025 with sequels like GreedFall 2, The Sinking City 2, and Subnautica 2.
Here are 20 of the most anticipated Xbox games of 2025:
Dynasty Warriors: Origins (PC, PS5, Xbox Series X) — Jan. 17
Dynasty Warriors: Origins is the next game taking place in the Three Kingdoms. Dynasty Warriors: Origins brings back the "nameless hero" as the protagonist in a fresh campaign. This hack-and-slash game is fully optimized for PC and Xbox, offering 4K ultra-HD resolution.
The pre-order bonus rewards players with a Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty collaboration skin as well has 72 hours early access to the game releasing on January 17th, 2025.
Civilization 7 (PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X) — Feb. 11
Sid Meier's Civilization VII is releasing for PC and all consoles on February 11th, 2025, but players can get up to 5 days early access with the digital Founder's Edition. This digital-only deluxe edition will only be available until February 28th, 2025, and is the only way players can access the Shawnee Pack with the new leader Tecumseh.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (PC, PS5, Xbox Series X) — Feb. 11
Return to Kingdom Come nearly 8 years after the first game released. Kingdom Come: Deliverance II continues the story of Henry in 15th century Medieval Europe. Kingdom Come is a true RPG experience where every decision matters. Side quests, conversations, and karmic choices will affect the ending to Henry's story.

Avowed (PC, Xbox Series X) — Feb. 18
Avowed is the next RPG coming from Obsidian, and it's set in the Living Lands. Obsidian, the developers of Pillars of Eternity and Pillars of Eternity 2, are creating a new adventure set in the same universe. This RPG will be first-person instead of top-down like Pillars of Eternity.
After being sent into the Living Lands to investigate a plague, you must form a party to have any hope of defeating an ancient threat there. Avowed is offering a Premium Edition that includes 5 days of early access, meaning you can play the new RPG as early as February 13th.
Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered (PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X) — Feb. 14
Tomb Raider IV-VI is being remastered for PC and console, releasing on February 14th, 2025. Players can choose to relive the classic adventures of Lara Croft with the original polygonal graphics or the remastered graphics, switching between them any time during the game.
This remastered edition includes some of Lara Croft's darkest adventures - The Last Revelation, Chronicles, and Angel of Darkness. Join Lara Croft as she travels to Cairo, Rome, Paris, and more.
Monster Hunter Wilds (PC, PS5, Xbox Series X) — Feb. 28
Monster Hunter Wilds has been voted the most anticipated game of 2025. This is the first major Monster Hunter title in 7 years, and the game looks polished and ready to take the GOTY title next year.
Along with all of the classic monster hunter features - Palico companions, weapons and armor crafting, hunting bounties online with your friends - the world in Monster Hunter Wilds will be the largest in the franchise.

Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings Game is probably the most anticipated cozy game of 2025. Play as a hobbit living their best cozy life in Hobbiton. Garden, fish, cook, decorate your home, and explore the outdoors in this relaxing cozy game.
In Tales of the Shire, it's up to you to restore and establish the tiny hobbit village of Bywater. This game features grid-free decorating so you can place decorations however you see fit! Tales of the Shire releases on Xbox and all platforms on March 25th, 2025.
Atomfall (PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X)
Atomfall is a post-apocalyptic RPG set in Great Britain. This survival-action game promises to be similar to the Fallout series. Explore a nuclear-ravaged landscape, scavenge, barter, and craft in this post-apocalyptic game.

33 Immortals is specifically optimized for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, meaning it will support frame rates of up to 120 FPS only on the Xbox!
Fable (PC, Xbox Series X)
The Fable rework has been in production for over 5 years and is expected to release in 2025. This classic medieval RPG was remastered in the Anniversary Edition in 2014 and was supposed to release for the 10-year anniversary in 2024.
Fable is a classic RPG experience. Every side quest can be completed or failed, opening and closing doors later in the game. Every conversation has a consequence and impacts the player's standing in the Fable world.
FragPunk (PC, Xbox Series X)
FragPunk is an upcoming 5v5 shooter that uses power-up cards to quickly change the tide of combat. There are 12 different heroes that players can choose from and 17 weapons. With the addition of different power-up cards, FragPunk gives the game a huge number of combinations that the hero shooter genre is currently missing!
Grand Theft Auto 6 (PS5, Xbox Series X) — fall 2025
GTA 6 is one of the most highly anticipated games of 2025, with Rockstar leaking several trailers and news over the past few months. The Sinking City 2 (PC, PS5, Xbox Series X)
The sequel to The Sinking City is another Lovecraftian horror adventure built on Unreal Engine 5. Explore the city of Arkham, full of fooded alley and decrepit mansions where Eldritch monsters are hiding around every corner. Powered by Unreal Engine 5, The Sinking City 2 will be both beautiful and haunting.
The Alters (PC, PS5, Xbox Series X) — Q1 2025
The Alters is an upcoming Xbox game that combines adventure, survival, and base-building, similar to Fallout Shelter with additional story elements. Play as Jan Dolski, building and managing a moving base in deep space.
Build relationships with your alters, influencing their decisions in both the past and present. This trippy and emotional sci-fi game is expected to come out in early 2025.
The Legend of Baboo (PC, Xbox Series X)
The Legend of Baboo is an upcoming action-RPG inspired by Eastern folklore - with adventure and combat similar to God of War. Follow the boy Sepehr and his dog Baboo across the ocean, through thick jungle, and up snow-peaked mountains.
After their island is invaded by a demonic force, Sepehr and Baboo journey across the continent to drive back evil. Players will play as both Sepehr and his loyal dog Baboo, each with their own unique abilities in the game.
Palworld (Xbox One, Xbox Series X)
Despite the lawsuit with Nintendo, Palworld developers Pocketpair are going full steam ahead with new updates and the port to Xbox. Palworld is a creature-catching and survival game with mechanics very similar to Pokémon, earning them a lawsuit from Nintendo.
Palworld is receiving a massive update in December 2024 with a new biome being added and will be ported to Xbox sometime in early 2025.
Mistfall Hunter (PC, Xbox Series X)
Mistfall Hunter is an upcoming PvP and PvE extraction game. Try to imagine Elden Ring as an extraction game, and you'll get Mistfall Hunter! Players will be able to craft their own build, strategize with a team of friends, and take down hordes of enemies with soulslike combat.
The dismal atmosphere, grotesque monsters, and soulslike combat is very reminiscent of Elden Ring, while the extraction mode reminds me of Witchfire.
Replaced (PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X)
REPLACED is an emotional 2.5D platformer set in a Cyberpunk 1980's world. You play as an artificial intelligence trapped in a human body attempting to pass yourself off as human. This dystopian world is full of outlaws and criminals, and you'll have to fight your way to survival. REPLACED will be available on PC and Xbox in 2025.
Subnautica 2 (PC, Xbox Series X) — early access
Subnautica 2 is releasing on Xbox and PC in early access in 2025. The developer - Unknown Worlds Entertainment - has created an entirely new underwater planet for players to explore. Can this ocean be habitable for humanity one day?
Subnautica 2 will support online co-op, and you can explore the depths with up to 3 other friends. Craft subs, equipment, and other tools that will help you catalogue the depths of this alien ocean!
