Path of Exile 2 releases in Early Access on December 6th at 11 AM PST, or 2 PM Eastern Standard Time. Grinding Gear Games says that Early Access will be as long as the developers need, at least 6 months.
There are 6 different supporter packs on GGG's website ranging from $30 to $480 that include Early Access. But if you're a long-time PoE fan, you may not have to pay anything for Early Access to PoE 2. Here's everything we know about the release of Path of Exile 2:
When is Path of Exile 2 releasing?
PoE 2 is releasing in Early Access on December 6th, 2024, at 11 AM PST.
What platforms is Path of Exile 2 releasing on?
PoE 2 is notably releasing the game on more than just PC for Early Access. PoE 2 will be releasing in Early Access on PC (Steam and Epic Games), on PlayStation 5, and on Xbox Series X.
How much content will be releasing with Early Access?
About HALF of the content for the entire game will be releasing for Early Access. Path of Exile 2 is planning to have a 6-Act story with a lengthy endgame. Early Access will have 3 acts of the story and endgame features.
The game is also planning on having 12 different classes with 3 specializations for each, meaning there will be 36 potential classes players can choose from. PoE 2 will release in Early Access with 6 of the classes with 2 specializations each.
Will there be a wipe before the full release of Path of Exile 2?
Grinding Gear Games promises that there will not be a wipe before the official release of the game, and that players will be able to use their Early Access characters to play the full release.
To compensate for players that completed the first 3 Acts of the game in Early Access, the official 6 Acts of Path of Exile 2 will have increased difficulty.
Unfortunately, players will have to play through the first 3 Acts again on a higher difficulty to access the latter half of the story. Hopefully some additional lore will be added by then so it's not a perfect 1 to 1 copy of the first 3 Acts.
How long will PoE 2 be in Early Access?
In their Steam "Path of Exile 2 Early Access FAQ", GGG states that the game will be in Early Access for as long as they need. Their current estimate is at least 6 months.
Path of Exile has built a reputation on not being a pay-to-win game. Players have definitely been able to enjoy cosmetic purchases, but Grinding Gear Games has always promised players that microtransactions would never be used to help players get ahead of each other.
Having players pay for Early Access seems like a deviation from their promise to some. But with the official release date at least 6 months from now, I think it's a fair offer. Plenty of other developers jack up the price of games for only days of Early Access.
In 2024, I paid $20 extra for 3 days of Early Access in World of Warcraft: The War Within, and $20 extra for only 2 days of Early Access for Silent Hill 2. I think paying $30 for 6 months of Early Access in a Free-to-Play game is perfectly fair.
How do players get free Early Access?
Grinding Gear Games is honoring loyal players that made in-game purchases in Path of Exile. Players that have spent at least $480 in Path of Exile (the cost of the most expensive supporter pack) they will have automatic early access to PoE 2.
Path of Exile released in 2013, meaning that any player that's purchased $480 worth of cosmetics or currency in the last 11 years will get free early access to PoE 2.
How expensive is Path of Exile 2 Early Access?
There are 6 different supporter packs for Early Access, ranging from $30 for an Early Access key and 300 points to $480 for the Liberator of Wraeclast Supporter that includes 4800 points, in-game cosmetics and physical merch.
Each supporter pack includes all of the items from the previous ones, meaning the $480 Supporter pack includes 2 Early Access keys, 60 in-game cosmetic items AND 3 physical items (a t-shirt, hoodie, and art book.)
