How to Get to Vashj'ir and Complete "From Ashes to Wisdom" in World of Warcraft: The War Within

This week, the Guest Relations questline is taking players all over Azeroth to calm a tiny whelpling that's hellbent on becoming the next Deathwing.

Guest Relations is a questline that's part of the World of Warcraft 20th Anniversary Celebration! There are plenty of achievements, titles, and rewards to collect from now until January 7th, and these Guest Relations side quests are part of the achievement "Assistant to the Assistant Guest Relations Manager."

"From Ashes to Wisdom" is part of the achievement section called "The Case of Great Aspirations." Help Alyx track down this tiny whelpling that aspires to become the next Deathwing!

If you need to catch up on WoW 20th Anniversary quests, check out these related guides:

This complete guide goes over how to complete "The Case of Great Aspirations" questline, including getting to Vashj'ir and completing From Ashes to Wisdom, AND how to find the 7th Celebration Crate hidden in Hyjal.

How to Get the Quest From Ashes to Wisdom

First, players should pick up the side quest A Legacy of Destruction from Alyx on the wooden pavilion in the Celebration Area. Alyx tells you that a whelpling is causing all kinds of destruction in the Pet Corner and asks you to check it out.

Head to the Pet Corner and meet Voidfire, a black whelpling that wants to become the next Deathwing. Voidfire will join you on a quest called "From Ashes to Wisdom" to show him how much destruction Deathwing caused, hopefully talking Voidfire out of it.

Maru gives the player a hint to head to the Burning Steppes first. Players should go to the Ruins of Thaurissan and use the Whelpling Whistle to summon Voidfire there.

Next, head to the Scar of the Worldbreaker in the Badlands. Use the Whelpling Whistle again to summon Voidfire and let him look at the huge scar Deathwing left across Azeroth.

Voidfire then decides that even if he doesn't cause destruction, he can still have devoted followers! Bring Voidfire to the Twilight Breach in the Twilight Highlands. Summon Voidfire using the Whelpling Whistle and let him see how much destruction followers can cause too.

How to Get to Vashj'ir

Voidfire's last desire is to use water to flood the world and cause destruction - the opposite of Deathwing's fire. We need to bring Voidfire to the Shimmering Expanse are of Vashj'ir to the Ruins of Vashj'ir. Here's the easiest way to get there:

Earthshring Portals Near Both Orgrimmar and Stormwind
Earthshring Portals Near Both Orgrimmar and Stormwind

The Ruins of Vashj'ir are underwater in Cataclysm, and there's a small questline to unlock the Earthshrine portals. The Earthshrine portals are located both in Stormwind and Orgrimmar, and one of these portals is straight to Vashj'ir.

Completing the first few intro quests for Vashj'ir grants players underwater breathing, so even if players can find a way around doing the questline to get to the area, it's still advisable to complete the intro quest chain to get underwater breathing.

Players can find the first quest for Vashj'ir on one of the Hero's Call boards in the capital cities Stormwind or Orgrimmar.

Although it's possible to physically fly over the ocean and dive into Vashj'ir, doing the first few quests will grant players access to the Earthshrine portals, underwater breathing, and increased swim speed.

After summoning Voidfire in the Ruins of Vashj'ir, he'll realize that becoming the next Deathwing is probably not a good idea after all. This will complete the quest "From Ashes to Wisdom" and give players credit for "The Case of Great Aspirations" in the achievement 'Assistant to the Assistant Guest Relations Manager."

The Burnt Ransom Note and Celebration Crate #7

The call board next to Alyx has a new note, The Burnt Ransom Note that hints to players that the next Celebration Crate is in Cataclysm.

If you've played through Cataclysm or Cata Classic, you might remember a quest where you rescue bear cubs from a tall tree and toss them down to a trampoline. The Burnt Ransom Note references this quest:

"Where ancient trees stand proud and tall,

You'll be careful not to fall.

To save small friends from an imminent demise,

The method you use may be a surprise."

The Celebration Crate can be found under that tree in Hyjal: /way #198 13.6, 33.5 Hyjal

There are still plenty of clues left to be discovered by secret hunters in WoW, and plenty of days left in the Guest Relations questline! Check back here at QuestAccepted! to see additional guides for new Guest Relations quests as they release.
