Alunira is one of the rarest special mounts in World of Warcraft: The War Within. This mount is guaranteed if you can suffer through a long RNG grind! Follow this concise Alunira mount guide to get one of the rarest mounts in the game.

Alunira is a beautiful rare that is almost always up at the peak of the Dhar Oztan mountain in the Isle of Dorn. However, this rare has a shield that makes her immune to all attacks and can only be dispelled with a Storm Vessel.
If players want to make Alunira their own, they have to farm out 10 Crackling Shards to form a Storm Vessel. This farm is one of the longest in The War Within!
Crackling Shards have a very small chance of dropping off of any enemy in the Isle of Dorn. You can either farm mobs mindlessly and hope that 10 shards drop, or complete other quests and mount farming around the Isle of Dorn and hope that 10 drop while you're busy doing other things.
Unfortunately, it's completely RNG if you get crackling shards. Mobs have between a 0.5-4% chance of dropping one. I farmed both the Soaring Meaderbee and chitin for Siesbarg in the Isle of Dorn, and only have 7 crackling shards after completing both of those mount farms! Of course, some other lucky players I ran into had over 15 Crackling Shards after farming Siesbarg.
Although almost every mob has less than a 4% chance to drop a Crackling Shard, there are 3 elites in the Isle of Dorn that have a higher chance:
These three elites have between a 20-50% chance to drop a crackling shard. If you're missing one or two, farming these elites will give you a higher chance of completing your Storm Vessel!
Thankfully, cracking shards are Warband-bound, meaning that you can combine crackling shards if you find one while questing on an alternate character. If a crackling shard drops while you're on an alt, you can put it in your Warband bank tab to send to your main character with the rest of the crackling shards. To unlock your Warband bank, you just have to follow a small questline called Warbands: Warbanding Together at the start of the expansion.
If a player manages to collect 10 Crackling Shards, simply click on them to combine the shards into a Storm Vessel. Then fly to the top of Dhar Oztan and wait for Alunira to spawn. You can use it on Alunira to dispel her shield. Once you defeat the rare, the mount drop is guaranteed!
Make sure you are not in a party when using the Storm Vessel. Only the person who breaks Alunira's shield will have a chance at the guaranteed mount. Players have reported that if you're in a party with others, the mount drops to a random person in the party. It's unclear if this is a bug or not.
Unfortunately, Crackling Shards cannot be traded to players in your party. If you end up with more than 10 shards, there's not much more you can do with them. If you're lucky enough to get the Alunira mount, you can't help your friends farm for shards.
