How to Create and Install Loot Filters in Path of Exile 2

Updated: Dec 15, 2024

Similar to the first Path of Exile, PoE 2 requires players to manually create their own loot filters and install them into the game's computer files. Follow this beginner's guide on how to use FilterBlade.xyz to create your own loot filter and install loot filters in Path of Exile 2.

This beginner's guide covers:

  • How to create a loot filter with FilterBlade

  • How to use the GitHub NeverSink PoE loot filter

  • How to install loot filters in Path of Exile 2

Unlike other ARPG's like Last Epoch that has an in-game loot filter - letting players filter what loot is auto picked-up to rare or legendary items - Path of Exile players will have to create their own filter and install it manually.

Thankfully, sites like FilterBlade make it easy for beginners to craft their own loot filter. PoE 2 players can use the site to create loot filters specific to the character they're playing. If you're playing a Sorceress, you can create a loot filter that only picks up specific magic items.

Although it would be easier for PoE 2 to have an in-game filter like Last Epoch, players are able to create much more specific loot filters that can be customized differently for every character!

These loot filters completely take unnecessary loot out of the game. They won't be rendered on the ground, meaning you won't have to look through loot on the ground or make frequent trips to town to get rid of obsolete gear.

Creating a Loot Filter with FilterBlade

Although it's possible for players to make their own loot filters from scratch, it's not recommended for beginners. Maxroll suggests that PoE players use a website called FilterBlade to create their loot filters for PoE 2.

Players should start with the Semi-Strict loot filter and can customize it from there after creating their filter profile.

First, players will need to sync their PoE account to FilterBlade.

  • Click Sign in with PoE in the top right corner of FilterBlade

  • Authorize FilterBlade to make changes to your filters

  • Click Save & Export on Filterblade

  • Name your filter and what platform you play PoE on

  • My Filters will now be where you update and load your PoE filters

Now you can go to Options and then Game to further customize your filter! From the options tab you can choose to hide filtered items on the ground and auto-equip better gear.

You can also create different filters for different characters - choosing to hide caster gear when you're on your warrior and vice versa.

After the Early Access release of Path of Exile 2, FilterBlade stated it would take 2-8 weeks for them to update their site with customizeable loot filters for PoE 2.

There is still a basic loot filter from NeverSink that players can install via FilterBlade while they wait for the website to catch up with the new game.

How to Use the NeverSink Basic Loot Filter

While players wait for FilterBlade to update their website for PoE 2, NeverSinkDev has created a basic loot filter through GitHub. This bare-bones loot filter doesn't hide items on the ground, but highlights important drops.

The NeverSink filter also has a special currency highlight, highlights rings, amulets, and belt drops, and makes gold more visible on the ground. Unlike FilterBlade, the NeverSink loot filter doesn't auto-update unless you're subscribed to their Patreon.

If you still want to use the NeverSink PoE 2 loot filter, you can install the loot filter using the steps below.

How to Manually Install a Loot Filter into PoE 2

Whether you use the NeverSink loot filter or wait to create a filter through FilterBlade, the installation process is the same. You'll have to manually add the loot filter to your game's files and then find it in PoE 2's options. To install a loot filter, follow these steps:

  • Download the filter from the website of your choice

  • For Windows - Extract the filter to \Documents\My Games\Path of Exile 2\OnlineFilters

  • For Linux - Extract the file to steamapps/compatdata/2694490/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/My Games/Path of Exile 2

  • Launch Path of Exile 2 and go to Options

  • Find the Game tab and select the filter you want to use

  • Save your settings

After selecting the loot filter, you should see a noticeable difference in the way loot is presented in the game, and currencies should be much easier to notice. If not, double check that you loot filter is saved in the correct file. If you use the NeverSink basic loot filter for now, you'll have to re-download the file every time an update comes out.
