Blizzard Adds a New $90 Auction House Mount to World of Warcraft: The War Within

Updated: 7 days ago

World of Warcraft: The War Within has a new Brutosaur mount that has both access to the Auction House and a mailbox. But there's a catch - this mount costs $90, the same as the entire new expansion costs. Is this mount worth it? Here are details for the new Trader's Gilded Brutosaur:

The Trader's Gilded Brutosaur is the first ever mount to feature a mailbox, making it a huge addition to WoW's in-game store. In order to access a mailbox outside of a town, players previously had to use a mailbox toy like Ohuna Perch or Katy's Stampwhistle, both with 3-hour cooldowns.

With the Trader's Gilded Brutosaur, players can access the mailbox and Auction House as often as they want, making this a very unique mount to come out of WoW's 20th Anniversary celebrations.

This mount also has access to the auction house, the first mount to have AH access since the Reins of the Mighty Caravan Brutosaur was introduced. This previous Brutosaur mount cost players 5 million gold and has since been removed from the game.

This luxurious mount retails for $90 USD, the same cost The War Within Deluxe Edition, which included the expansion, multiple mounts, and multiple armor sets. This is also the same cost as the most expensive edition of the new Vessel of Hatred expansion for Diablo IV, which included the base expansion, multiple mounts, multiple appearances and in-game currency.

WoW's 20th Anniversary is featuring a ton of in-game events as well as these new in-game store bundles. Players can take part in mini games in the celebration area in Tanaris, timewalking dungeons and the timewalking raid Blackrock Depths, and collect Celebration Tokens to spend with vendors. Here are some additional WoW 20th anniversary guides:

Is the mount worth it? It's really up to individual players. If players often find themselves in need of the Auction House or a mailbox outside of cities, this mount could very well be worth it. This is especially true since the previous Brutosaur is not available for purchase.

The Trader's Gilded Brutosaur is decked out in a gold harness set, complete with different gemstones representing all of WoW's expansions. This is definitely a collector's mount that a lot of mount farmers are sure to buy.

In terms of in-game currency, this mount may be worth picking up while it's available through January 6th, 2025. The value of the WoW Token is at an all-time low, barely at 200,000 gold most days. Since the last Brutosaur cost 5,000,000 gold, players would have had to spend well over $90 to get that amount of gold via WoW tokens.

Update: With the addition of this mount, the value of WoW Tokens sky rocketed, with many players using their in-game gold to add tokens to their Blizzard balance to purchase the mount. WoW tokens are currently unavailable.

However, this mount costs the same as the entire War Within expansion did, including the deluxe edition with early access.

Blizzard also released another Anniversary Mount Bundle for $30 that includes 8 mounts, 4 for retail and 4 for classic. This anniversary mount bundle includes:

  • Chaos-Forged Gryphon

  • Chaos-Forged Hippogryph

  • Chaos-Forged Dreadwing

  • Chaos-Forged Wind Rider

Players who purchase the bundle will get a copy of these mounts for both their retail account and Cataclysm classic account.

The WoW 20th Anniversary events give players a break from fighting arachnid and the malicious harbinger of the void in the dark depths of the Nerubian Empire. Players can instead enlist with Chromie to defeat old enemies and face Azeroth's dangers in the Chromie's Codex event, available in Group Finder. Players can find the rest of the celebration area in Tanaris, the capital city of the Caverns of Time. Discover many more hidden wonders during the World of Warcraft anniversary events and in The War Within!
